Course Summary

Following the government relaxation some more of the COVID-19 lock down, BLYM will open the base to 6 persons using BLYM Boats.

Session dates will be released each Wednesday afternoon at 16:00 for the following Saturday and each Sunday afternoon at 16:00 for the following Wednesday.

Sessions are free of charge for those sailing their own boat and who have paid their 2020 berthing fees.

Please note the places are per person and not per boat.

Summary of Detailed Arrangements

  • Do not attend if you have coronavirus symptoms (raised temperature, persistent cough, loss of taste or smell) or if someone in your household is infected or if anyone in household has been instructed to self-isolate

  • Cars must be parked in the main Aquadrome car park.  Only those bringing heavy equipment may drive into the park.  Only members of the same family may travel together by car.  We ask that spectators are limited to those accompanying young people.

  • The lake is open for sailing using the BLYM fleet and members’ own boats.  Members of the same family may sail in the same boat.  Others must sail single-handed only.

  • Social distancing, which we have all become used to, will be in operation throughout the site.  Please observe the signage and directions of the duty warden.  You will be required to observe the government limitation on gatherings, which currently allow members of one family to meet with 5 other persons only using social distancing.

  • To minimize the risk of virus transmission the club house, galley, changing rooms and workshop are closed.  Toilets accessible from outside the wet zone will be available.  Please arrive changed and ready to go on the water.  We will provide storage for your sailing bag.  You should bring your own water bottle or refreshments as the galley is closed.

  • We are limiting the number of BLYM boats on the water at any one time.  Please book a 3-hour timed slot in advance on the BLYM website. Notification will be sent once received.  Payment will be made at the time of booking.

  • Please bring your own buoyancy aid if you have one or BLYM’s will be available should this not be possible.

  • To cut down the need for Safety interaction we are asking that you must have at least your Stage Level 3 or Adult level 2 RYA qualifications and are confident.  The Warden may restrict access to some boats, ask you to reef, or attach mast head flotation.  Should the weather not be appropriate for your experience BLYM will have the right to reallocate you a slot on another day.

  • When you have finished sailing you will recover your boat and clean down using our hose and light spray marking it with a tag to show that it has been cleaned. BLYM will then place this boat into a quarantine area prior to someone else using it straight away. The same will work for the sails.

  • Due to the high risk in our older generation BLYM has had to make the decision along with the government’s guidelines that anyone over the age of 70 should not be able to enter the base whilst it is open. Again, we apologize to this age group, it is not personal.

More arrangements can be found in the letter sent out to members.
