The 2019 Norfolk Expedition will be a two-day weekend, Saturday 27th to Sunday 28th April, with a briefing for participants at BLYM on Easter Saturday, 20th April at 12.00 mid-day. For those who aren't available for the briefing an alternative arrangement can be made.
We are hopeful that we will be able to travel to Norfolk on the Friday evening and stay on the boats overnight on Friday, giving us a longer day sailing on Saturday. We will not know until about a week before the trip if this is possible because it depends if the boats are hired out the previous week.
Arrangements are as follows:
- Travel to Norfolk on Friday 26th or Saturday 27th April. Dinner in pub in Ludham village if travelling on Friday, and sleep aboard overnight.
- Two days sailing Saturday and Sunday on these heritage cabin yachts, passage plan depending on weather
- Overnight stop with dinner ashore at a family-friendly pub
- Return to Hunters Yard Sunday afternoon, with departure by 4.00pm for the journey home
The price per head will be £135, which includes a refundable deposit of £25 per head if all boats are returned without damage. The price includes:
- Two days sailing on a four-berth Wood-class cabin yacht
- Escorting powerboat
- Breakfast, lunch, snacks and drinks (for which we will share preparation duties)
- Mooring fees
- Mattress, pillows and blankets (you will need your own sleeping bag)
Not included in the price:
- Travel to and from Norfolk
- Evening meal ashore
- Waterproofs can be hired from BLYM if you don't have your own
The Hunters Yard trip has run successfully for many years. Exploring the Norfolk Broads in this way is a timeless experience and a great adventure. It's real live Swallows and Amazons stuff. Bookings will be accepted on a first come, first served basis and is subject to there being sufficient experienced helms in the party.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.

Come and take a look at what's happening
If you've not been to BLYM recently, then you are in for a bit of a treat! We have our new buildings ready and they are looking fantastic. The new boat house is filling up as we move equipment from our old (and rather tired) club house to these new purposefully designed buildings and the new 'wet room' is now being handed over from the builders. We can't wait to make full use of the new set-up. A huge number of volunteers have put many hours of work into the biggest project BLYM has undertaken and we are very proud of the results. Please come and join in our general sailing day on Saturdays and we would welcome the opportunity to show you around our new facilities. Our RYA courses and our general sailers will shortly be able to make use of all of this hard work.
If you would like to help us with the fit out work - e.g. installing benches, path and earthwork and many more similar jobs please contact Ollie Smith. We have volunteers working most weekends.
Try Sailing in May with RYA Push the Boat Out
Push the Boat Out is aimed at anyone interested in getting into a boat and out on the water. With no experience or equipment necessary, events are aimed at complete beginners, as well as more experienced sailors looking for a way back into the sport or interested in finding out more about their local club. Families, children, partners, individuals, groups of friends – everyone is welcome.
Last year at BLYM we helped 100's of people have a go at sailing and we're doing it again this year. If you'd like to bring along friends and family for an introduction to sailing please do.
RYA Sailing Courses - why not make use of your membership discount and book yourself an RYA Sailing Course?
We have started the season with a huge program of RYA Training. All of the fantastic training sessions on offer are listed on the Club Calendar and on our Courses Page. The great news is that we've had a big take up of course bookings for the start of the season. If you know of friends or family that would like to start sailing, take on a new challenge or extend their capability please forward this email. We have a lot of return candidates and many bookings from recommendations. Please help us reach out to as many people as possible.
Fund Raising - don’t forget we still need help raising funds
We need fund raising for fit-out costs. You can help by buying a brick. When the new building is complete we will engrave "your" brick with your message, greeting or a name of your choice. What goes on the brick is up to you, but remember your message will be displayed inside the new clubhouse to inspire future generations.
Why not donate to BLYM as you shop, and without any effort
You can use Amazon Smile to generate funds as you spend on Amazon. Pick Bury Lake Young Mariners Limited (thats our charity full name) as your charitable organisation and always access Amazon via https://smile.amazon.co.uk.
Plus you can access a huge range of other online retailers through https://easyfundraising.org.uk. In the Search for a Cause pick Bury Lake Young Mariners.
What is AmazonSmile?
AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support a charity of your choice every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.co.uk, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as amazon.co.uk, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to your selected charity.
How does easy fundraising work?
Easyfundraising turns your everyday online shopping into free donations for your favourite cause. How? Just start your online shopping first at easyfundraising, then shop as normal. Our retailers will then make a small donation to say “thank you”. We have 3,586 retailers to choose from and so far we've raised over £25 million for thousands of community groups, schools, sports clubs, small and large charities across the UK. Easy!
IMPORTANT YOU NEED TO READ THIS - do you own a boat and is it in the BLYM Boat Park?
If you have a boat stored at BLYM and you've not been contacted yet, please help us and send an email to email@example.com as soon as possible.
We are performing an audit of all private and group boats stored at BLYM. We will be adding a contact name and contact details to your boat trolley to improve our ability to manage the park. We'll also make some updates to our website so that memberships with berths include a pre-arranged berth location. We've updated our Boat Park Policy to reflect these changes.
Unfortunately, we do have boats abandoned or unauthorised in our Boat Park and, as the Boat Park Policy states, we may need to take steps to remove, sell or dispose of boats and/or trailers.
See you at BLYM soon!
