Splash Club
Splash Club is back this Wednesday (5th June) and will run until the first Wednesday of September, offering an unbeatable opportunity to enjoy general sailing from 4pm to 8pm for just £5.00 per person.
It's the perfect chance for those who have recently completed sailing courses to hone their skills and have some fun on the water. No website sign-up is required – simply turn up and sail!
We're also calling on all wardens and assistant wardens to sign up online for warden duty (for Splash Club and General Sailing on Saturdays) - please do your part to help us make this season a success. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Fundraising
Every donation helps, and every pound and penny raised will make a huge difference to our charity.
There are many ways you can help raise money; you can buy a brick that will be embossed with your personal message and displayed in the new clubhouse building. These bricks will allow future generations to recognise the contributions of members past and present. You can use LocalGiving to make a one-off donation or set up a monthly donation or you can use easyfundraising and we can collect free donations every time you buy something online (it won't cost you a penny extra to help us raise funds).

LocalGiving - Magic Little Grants
Dear LocalGiving,
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude for your generous contributions to the BLYM sailing charity through the Magic Little Grants initiative.
In April 2020, with your help, we were able to purchase new radios to provide fast and efficient communication between instructors and between the duty warden and instructors. This grant has greatly improved our safety coverage and we are immensely grateful for your support.
In May 2021, you once again provided us with additional funding towards the purchase of our RS Zests. The Zests arrived at the start of June and since then, we have been able to provide 1,000s of sailing sessions to juniors from across our community. Your generous sponsorship through our donation site on LocalGiving has allowed us to make a real difference in our sailing charity and we are incredibly thankful for your support.
Finally, in May 2022, we were granted £500 towards the purchase of new buoyancy aids. This grant has allowed us to provide the necessary safety equipment for our all of our sailors, and we cannot thank you enough. We are truly grateful for your continued generosity and support and thank you for your commitment to helping our charity.
Best regards, BLYM
Bury Lake Young Mariners (BLYM) - Summer Newsletter
Dear BLYM Members,
School’s out!!!
We are delighted to share our summer newsletter, brimming with exciting opportunities to get you out on the water and enjoying the nautical life!
Youth Team
Co-chairs: Owen Skinner and Frankie Rollinson
Meet Frankie and Owen, the duo leading our Youth Team! These year 11 superstars haven't let their busy GCSE year slow them down. They're not only dedicated students, but also passionate volunteers who recently hosted their first annual Funday.
Their hard work brought together 40 students and 20 instructors for a jam-packed day featuring five exciting activities and fab BBQ lunch. Frankie and Owen's organizational skills and enthusiasm made the event a resounding success!
Their dedication extends beyond the Funday. Both Frankie and Owen just aced their Dinghy Instructor Pre-Assessment, demonstrating their sailing prowess with complex maneuvers. We have no doubt they'll excel in their full instructor course later this month. Their journey began right here at BLYM, they completed their Youth Stages with as and their instructor courses, which has led them to be exceptional role models to all our instructors.
But the fun doesn't stop there! Frankie and Owen are already gearing up for their next challenge: organizing the highly anticipated Jazz on the Patio event - Saturday, September 7th. Mark your calendars now!!!
Summer Sailing Courses
BLYM is proud to offer a comprehensive range of RYA sailing courses throughout the summer holidays. Whether you're a seasoned sailor looking to refine your skills or a complete novice eager to embark on your sailing journey, we have the perfect course for you. Our curriculum caters to all levels, from RYA Stages 1-4 to Advanced Modules.
Junior Sailing Programs (Age 7-9)
Are you interested in sparking a love of sailing in your young one? Our Junior Half Day programs offer a fantastic introduction to the world of sailing for children aged 7-9. These introductory sessions provide a springboard for youngsters before they embark on official RYA courses.
Tesco Stronger Starts
BLYM’s application to “Tesco Stronger Starts” for 2024 has been successful, so that BLYM’s project will be put forward to a customer vote in two local Tesco stores. Voting will commence in store from the first week in July 2024 until the end of September 2024. The stores are listed below. Please encourage all members to vote for BLYM when using these stores. To vote, you need to make a purchase in-store to receive a token (but no need to buy a carrier bag).
The project with the highest number of votes across your region will receive £1,500 (or the amount that was requested up to this value), the second placed project £1,000 (or the amount that was requested up to this value), and the third placed project £500.
The two Tesco stores are the superstore near the Aquadrome (WD3 1LX ) and Tesco Express on Tudor Parade, Berry Lane (WD3 4DF).
Volunteer Opportunities
BLYM thrives on the unwavering dedication of our volunteers. We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team in various capacities:
- Wardens (Saturdays & Wednesday evenings from May to early September): We require responsible individuals to ensure the safety and smooth running of our activities on Saturdays and Wednesdays after school.
- Qualified Wardens (who have their Safety boat qualification) are officially now being compensated with £30 per day – to help cover the costs of the training and travel! Please help and come down.
- If you are interested, but feel you need some training, please contact us!
- Boating/Powerboating Enthusiasts: Do you possess a wealth of experience and a passion for sailing? We would be grateful for your expertise on the water to guide and support our members.
- Galley Crew: BLYM is always looking for talented individuals with a culinary flair to assist in our galley. Your skills in selling kids chocolate, drinks, and muffins will fuel our young sailors and will keep our young sailors fueled up for their sailing sessions.
There is training available for all of these roles – any help is appreciated. Please help and join our team!
If you are interested in volunteering your time and talents in any of these areas, please do not hesitate to contact Chris Hallett at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
We look forward to welcoming you to BLYM this summer!
Kind regards,
The BLYM Team
