Bury Lake Young Mariners (BLYM) is an award-winning local youth charity (No. 1102162) and we are run entirely by over 300 volunteers at the picturesque Rickmansworth Aquadrome.
For 40 years, we have promoted the development of life skills in young people through the medium of sailing and related activities and we take over 6000 people onto the water each year.
We operate an all-inclusive club and welcome new members. Please see the Membership pages for details.
All of our sailing and powerboat courses are certified by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and are available to anyone from aged 9 upwards to adults. We also offer short fun sessions for 7-9 year-olds.
This year, BLYM celebrates it's 40th anniversary and as such, we will be holding various events to celebrate. Keep an eye out for more details as the year progresses!
Dear Bury Lake Young Mariners,
A thank you and a reminder.
Many thanks to all of the volunteers who came along to the Laying Up Day on Saturday, 18 November. The BLYM boats and equipment were put to bed for the winter and there was lots of tidying up and deep cleaning.
We all had a fantastic night at the Laying Up Supper hosted and organised by Molly Williams and the Youth Team. Congratulations to the prize winners, listed at the bottom, for their recognition and hard work throughout the 2023 season. A special thanks to Molly for her dedication and leadership as the outgoing Youth Team chair. Molly has shared her passion for sailing and selflessly guided our young sailors. As Molly steps back from leading the Youth Team, please join us in welcoming Frankie Rollison and Owen Skinner as they take over the chair position.
Lastly, a reminder that the AGM will be taking place on Sunday, 10 December at the club house from 2pm.

Fundraising
Every donation helps, and every pound and penny raised will make a huge difference to our charity.
There are many ways you can help raise money; you can buy a brick that will be embossed with your personal message and displayed in the new clubhouse building. These bricks will allow future generations to recognise the contributions of members past and present. You can use LocalGiving to make a one-off donation or set up a monthly donation or you can use easyfundraising and we can collect free donations every time you buy something online (it won't cost you a penny extra to help us raise funds).

LocalGiving - Magic Little Grants
Dear LocalGiving,
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude for your generous contributions to the BLYM sailing charity through the Magic Little Grants initiative.
In April 2020, with your help, we were able to purchase new radios to provide fast and efficient communication between instructors and between the duty warden and instructors. This grant has greatly improved our safety coverage and we are immensely grateful for your support.
In May 2021, you once again provided us with additional funding towards the purchase of our RS Zests. The Zests arrived at the start of June and since then, we have been able to provide 1,000s of sailing sessions to juniors from across our community. Your generous sponsorship through our donation site on LocalGiving has allowed us to make a real difference in our sailing charity and we are incredibly thankful for your support.
Finally, in May 2022, we were granted £500 towards the purchase of new buoyancy aids. This grant has allowed us to provide the necessary safety equipment for our all of our sailors, and we cannot thank you enough. We are truly grateful for your continued generosity and support and thank you for your commitment to helping our charity.
Best regards, BLYM
