RYA Start Racing Course
This two day intermediate course will introduce you to the delicate art of racing. We will focus on each leg of the course to improve your boat speed and handling through the five essentials, develop a strategy to outwit your opponents and look into how to optimise your boat for the course and conditions. Racing is a brilliant way to develop your sailing knowledge and ability further, the competitiveness brings accelerated improvement for everyone involved. Following this course, you will be able to take part in club racing in good conditions and look at going further afield for racing events.
It is a requirement to have completed and be at the standard of RYA Stage 3 (junior) or RYA Level 2 (adult) for this course. If you have any queries please email racing@blym.org.uk
Please note we have a hard minimum of nine years old, along with the course prerequisites, to attend this course.
Course Outline
- Use of the 5 essentials in aiding boat speed.
- An introduction to racing tactics through the use of the racing rules of sailing.
- Racing starts & an efficient upwind strategy.
- Boat handling, mark roundings & manoeuvres.
