Course Summary

An intense five day course culminating in a one day assessment by an external moderator, as required by the RYA. This course will cover the full RYA method of dinghy sailing instruction, with practical opportunities to explore teaching techniques afloat and ashore. Candidates will be expected to run sessions independently, give talks and perform land drills over the duration of the course with feedback and guidance from colleagues and the coach assessor. Unlike the AI qualification, a dinghy instructor can work at any sailing club as the certificate is transferable.

Prior to taking this course, candidates must have completed a one day pre-assessment to display an apt level of personal sailing ability. Before a certificate can be awarded, successful candidates must also have completed a recognised first aid course and hold an RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification. The minimum age is strictly 16 years. If you are not an RYA member, you will need to pay an additional registration fee on successful completion of the course.
