RYA Powerboat Level 1

Course Summary

This course is in effect a scaled down version of Level 2 focussing purely on the practical handling elements of Level 2 offering a great introduction to powerboating. During the course all the time is spent on the water practising manoeuvres but there is also time to look at the safety aspects of boating. There are no classroom-based theory sessions.

Please note: to drive a powerboat as part of a session at BLYM, you must hold a Level 2 certificate amongst other requirements. Powerboat Level 1 is NOT required for entry to Level 2 and most adults go straight in at Level 2.

Course Outline

• Launch and recovery
• Preparation of boat and crew
• Boat handling
• Picking up and securing to a mooring buoy
• Leaving and coming alongside
• Being towed

Able to drive under direct supervision

RYA Recognition Information

This RYA course is held under the Bury Lake Young Mariners Recognised Training Centre at our base at the Rickmansworth Aquadrome. The maximum Instructor to Student Ratio is: 1:3 and the minimum duration for the course is 1 Day. The following material is provided to you as part of your course:
